Final Fantasy 10 was the first game of the series for the Playstation 2, and it carried the name of Final Fantasy into even more popularity. This game featured a quality storyline, amazing graphics and gameplay and of course the major advancement was character voiceovers. For the first time in this amazing series, Square has included voice overs for all the main characters. Throughout the game, the characters interact with once another, this made playing these games a whole new experience. Emotions of characters were now visible on face and it made more realistic by adding voices because it was easily depicted if the character was happy or sad. Final Fantasy 10 features a wide range of characters from all different backgrounds, some with 1000 years difference...The characters are very detailed in the game with visible facial expressions, voice overs and weapons/clothing also looks very good. The characters enter the story of the game very well and everything about this game comes together to output the final masterpeice that is Final Fantasy 10. Compared with its formers, Final Fantasy 10 left them way behind (In graphics department), this game was a huge jump compared to 7,8 and 9. The graphics were very smooth even in gameplay and the FMV sequences were amazing. Every game, Square seems to have new ideas and new techniques to improve game quality every time. This game took full advantage of the new PS2 console and Square was able to create a realistic world that featured alot of detail that was visually appealing. Older games lacked this attention to detail in areas, but by reading the "project date" of this game (99-2001), they spent 2 years perfecting this game and it really shows. Even small things such as snow falling at Mt. Gagazet and the lightning at the Thunder Plains just make the game that much more enjoyable. The battle system was completely changed; out with the old ATB system and in with the turn-based system. Though similar to the ATB, you are able to switch characters in and out of a battle with is a great new feature. The visual effects during battles are spectacular, using music, summoning aeons and even normal attacks looks very good. Another great feature to the battle system is voice overs, characters will usually say smart-remarks after winning a battle or even running away, once again attention to detail proved great for this game. Gone are the days of the worldmap, this made this game alot more realistic as your characters were no longer as big as the places they were about to go into...Instead this game opted for the set path you must travel and towards the end of the game you were given an al bhed airship to revisit old and some new locations. Game movement was flawless, this game featured great camera angles and gameplay was very easy and smooth. The old leveling up system disappeared in Final Fantasy 10 and was replaced with the new Sphere Grid. Instead of gaining experience and levels, you were given spheres and sphere levels that could be used to move around the sphere grid and learn new abilities and increase character stats. Some of the more powerful attacks were often "locked" by keys that you could find throughout the game. Generally I liked this system, I found it complicated at first but after more experience It was easy to use. Nobuo Uematsu, with the help of 2 other composers created the score of Final Fantasy 10. Personally I think this soundtrack is the best of any FF album. As a result of this, the game features some of the best music ever in a videogame. Almost every scene has its own unique music to go with it and if a scene in revolved around something, running away for example, a catchy tune is played to go with it. This is great for the game and it was really enjoyable. Each character has their own theme and its played at different times of the story when the focus is on that characters, Other popular titles such as "Suteki da ne" and "Someday the dream will End" are some of the most popular songs of all time. The composers did a great job with Final Fantasy 10, without their efforts, the game would not have been as great as it was, good music just fills in the gaps to create a perfect game. If you remotely like RPG games, then make sure that you play Final Fantasy 10 as you won't be disappointed. Although many people were saddened by the ending of this game, and many thought it was "incomplete", these people were relieved to hear that for the first time, a direct sequel was being made - Final Fantasy X-2 ... 2 Years later. |
