Final Fantasy X-2 is the first ever sequel to a Final Fantasy game. Taking off from where Final Fantasy 10 left, this game had big shoes to fill and high expectations to please and it has done both of these. A significantly improved battle system, better graphics and smoother gameplay are just some of the features in Final Fantasy X-2. This game also features an all-female cast, which is a first in the seriers - there are no playable male characters in the game. The game is set 2 years after the tragic events of Final Fantasy 10, but this time around it's Yuna's Story. She has become a high summoner and is now living back on Besaid Island. She still hurts over the loss of Tidus and wonders is she will ever see him again. One day Rikku shows up at besaid with a sphere, that shows blunt shadows of what appears to be Tidus. These days there are groups called Sphere Hunters all over Spira. In a bid to find Tidus, Yuna joins the sphere-hunting group, "The Gullwings". Yuna and Rikku return from Final Fantasy 10 with different attitudes and more 'unique' looks. Both girls wear more revealing clothing and It's obvious this game has been targeted at the teenage males. They are joined by their close friend, Paine who is also a member of the The Gullwings. Paine doesn't like to talk very much and is very quiet about her past. The voice actors of Yuna and Rikku from FF10 return and bring those characters to life in X-2. The voice acting was great, as was in 10, it's a great addition to RPG games. Although the characters might look the same, their personalities have changed greatly. No longer is Yuna a quiet summoner girl who never puts a foot wrong, after what happened 2 years ago, she speaks her mind and when something happens she doesn't like, she lets people know about it - Yuna quote "I dont like that plan, It sucks". Because the game is set in the same world as Final Fantasy X, Square was able to re-use many existing graphics from its prequel. They didn't just re-use them, some locations were completely redone such as Kilika, Gagazet and parts of Mushroom Rock Road. The graphics of Final Fantasy X-2 are very well-down with realistic environments and ever little things such as clouds moving accross the sky that build up the environment and make it better. This game didn't improve much on Final Fantasy 10's engine but did make small advancements and overall proves to be very efficent. The gameplay remaining relatively the same as Final Fantasy 10, but there were some major differences including the Dress Sphere System, Mission System, Leveling up system and Battle System. The Dress Sphere system had been used before in previous games but Final Fantasy X-2 is the first 3D game to use the system. There are a wide range of spheres to collect in the game and they all have their own abilites, strengths and weaknesses. The Mission System was another old favorite brought back in this game, as Sphere Hunters you go on missions looking for spheres and defeating fiends. There are many missions throughout the game, some optional some forced - for 100% completion all side-missions must be completed. The Sphere Grid was removed in this game and replaced with the traditional leveling-up system, this was welcomed by most fans. The battle was redone once again, this time it was alot more active, no longer turn based, it is "attack when your ready" this ment if you were preparing an attack the enemy can quickly kill you while your preparing, this can be annoying but it works both ways. Final Fantasy X-2 music differs alot of Final Fantasy X. The music of this game is most jazz and pop music such as the Gullwings Theme. The battle music etc was completely redone including the removal of the traditional fanfare theme. Another noticeable Pop song is the opening FMV of real emotion which features Yuna singing. There is nothing wrong with this type of music, It's just somethining new different that has never been used in a Final Fantasy game. The soundtrack has sold farily well worldwide and it provides a wide range of music for the game. Final Fantasy X-2 ties the not as far as Final Fantasy 10 is concerned, some people may disagree, saying 10 was complete as it was. None the less, this game has been released and should be considered the true ending for a great game. As much as people want it, this story is now finished and there will be no Final Fantasy X-3 (damn). Square did a great job of creating a whole new story out of a finished game. When they were developing Final Fantasy 10, there were no plans of a sequal. You cant finish 10 and not play X-2, they go together, If you enjoyed Final Fantasy 10, then I recommend you go out and pick up a copy of Final Fantasy X-2 and find out the true ending to the story... |
