The pine forest of crete!!

There are at least four places you should consider visiting if you travel to the far eastern tip of Crete: Toplou, Vai, Paleokastro and Zakros. At Toplou there is a fortified Monastery founded in the l4th century and one of the largest and most impressive in Crete. At Vai on the sea there is a palm tree 'forest' that is said to have been planted during the Arab occupation of Crete in the 9th century AD. Paleokastro, like Vai, has become something of a resort village with easy access to a pleasant beach and many facilities; Minoan and Mycenean remains have been found near the present village. Lastly, Zakros further down the peninsula is known for its magnificent Minoan Palace. There is also a fine beach and excellent views and walks.
